While the learning I received in my classes at Central Michigan University helped to lay the groundwork for my path into journalism, my work at Central Michigan Life, the student-led newspaper on campus, gave me real-world experience that I will forever be thankful for.
In two years of work as a sports reporter, I covered several different beats, including football, women's basketball, baseball and field hockey. My work on the football beat gave me the chance to travel to a couple of Central Michigan's road games in 2025, including the matchup at the University of Michigan and the GameAbove Sports Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit.
Women's basketball was the beat that I did the most extensive work on. I covered the team for two seasons (2024-25 and 2025-26). This gave me the chance to really learn the team and get to know the coaches and players, leading to deeper reporting.
Overall, my time at CM-Life was incredibly valuable by giving me much-needed experience in the field. Scroll down to read some of my work from the publication!
